2024 League Wrap Up

Last Sunday the 2024 Border league was decided after the final games. As usual the league had all the twists and turns that we have come to expect.

Nahoon Mouth dethroned the previously dominant Old Selbornian team that had ruled the roost for the last 3 years in the lady’s first league with a consistent season, making them the decided winners.

Unfortunately, the Comrades ladies struggled this season, and it means they drop out of the first league and will be replaced by East London Bowling Club who have consistently won their leagues over the last few years, working their way up the ladder to get to the apex league in the ladies division. Congratulations to them.

In the other leagues, Kidds Beach Moves up to second league, while Typos drops down. Kei Mouth moves up to third league and Hamilton’s moves down. Typos drops out of the fourth league and the winners of the newly formed fifth league, Comrades, take the available spot in the fourth.

The men’s Premiere League was very closely contended, with the final rubber between Old Selbornians and Comrades on Sunday morning being the decider. Prior to the game, Old Boys were one point ahead on the log and needed six points from the match to be untouchable. As it turned out Comrades won the fixture 6.5 to 5.5 meaning that both sides finished on equal points, and Old Boys took the title on shot profit.

To be honest, Comrades were probably the better side in the tournament, having beaten the boys in black and white in both the home and away fixtures, but Comrades let themselves down against East London BC by dropping a full twelve points on the day, while Old Boys picked up seven against Typos at the same time. However, “that’s bowls” as the famous saying goes, and the celebrations at the White House were loud and long.

In the first league, the boys from Hamiltons BC bounced back from relegation last year to win the first league and reclaim their spot in the Premiere league at the expense of Typos, who couldn’t get out the blocks all season and finished last in the top tier.

Gonubie (White) finished last in the first league and will make way for the King Williams Town boys who won the second league. Old Selbornian (B) will drop to third league and make way for the third league winners, Kei Mouth.

All the other results will be on the league page under “Competitions” so navigate over there to bring yourselves up to speed on the results. However, a very special mention must be made of Cinsta Bowling club who have recently affiliated and competed in their first Border league, winning the seventh league and making the step up to sixth on the first attempt. Very well done Cintsa!

And that’s a wrap for the 2024 League, attention now moves onto the Novice Singles and the Inter Districts next week.
